Lighting Hallways and Stairs

by @ 11:46 pm. category: Lighting

Indoor hallways and stairs are among the most important places in the home for proper lighting. A poorly lighted stairway is a source of accidents. it is only practical to place a light at the head of the stairs and another at the foot of the landing. If any fixtures are needed along the stairs, they should either be recessed in the ceiling or wall or attached to the wall with a shield so as not to blond anyone walking on the stairs.

Another alternative for stair lighting is to install step lighting, these are small wattage led or fiber optic lights, located along and recessed at the wall, just a few inches (4in to 6in) above the steps. As the name suggests, they can be installed at every step or spaced one or two stair threads apart.

For hallways, be sure to have more than one light if it is long. Space them at a ratio of one fixture every 3 meters of hall length. These fixtures should have a minimum of a 50-100 watt bulb.

Control joints. Grooves that are tooled or cut into the surface of wet concrete to make it crack in straight lines at planned locations, rather than cracking randomly.
