There is a minimum and a maximum recommended distance for the working triangle. The minimum distance is 3.60 meters (11ft, 10in) and the maximum is 6.60 meters (21ft, 6in). This is calculated by adding together the total length of the three sides of the triangle A+B+C

A kitchen will only work well if the working triangle is laid out correctly. If the working triangle is too small and the three elements are too close, the kitchen will be cramped and awkward to work in. If the working triangle is too big the user will have to walk long distanccces while working in their kitchen, which will be very tiring.
Once you have positioned the working triangle don’t be tempted to position anything in the middle of the tirangle (like a tablle and chairs or a breakfast bar) as this will cause obstructions for the person using the kitchen. If you want a table and chairs or breakfast bar make sure they are positioned away from the working triangle.
Next discussion for Part 2 of this series is about different kitchen layouts.
