Previously we discussed the basics of thermal insulation, but insulation is not complete without ventilation. When your house is tightly built and insulated, it is more necessary than ever to have good ventilatiom. You will need controlled ventilation through all the parts of the house to carry stagnant air and excess moisture especially when you live in a hot and humid climate. You will also need ventilation in the kitchen to get rid of cooking fumes, odor, and grease. usually, opening doors and windows and using electric ventilating fans to force out the warm air are the common methods of ventilating homes.
Vents of any type help cool the house, they should be size accordingly with a minimum of about 4 square feet of clear opening per 1000 square feet of the ceiling floor area or larger. Using the provision, this will be sized about at least 24in x 28in. Keep in mind that inadequate ventilation will cause condensation and heat build-up, eventually this will lead to deterioration of framing, insulation, and interior finishes.
